What is Metallurgical Coal? Metallurgical, or Met Coal as it is commonly called, is merely pure carbon and is used in the manufacturing of steel. Its high BTU qualities are essential, as it is very difficult to melt iron and ore into steel without it.
What Met Coal is not? Thermal coal, which is used in the powering of coal electric power plants. These types of coal are incidental in many of our mining opportunities but are typically not the primary target.
